Typesetting Assignment Reflection

Two of the most powerful programs used for creating PR publications include Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator. InDesign is mostly used to create desktop publishing, typesetting, and document design. InDesign documents can be saved as INDD and PDF. Illustrator is used for vector graphics which are crisp no matter the size. Vector graphics include logos because they have to be adjusted to all sizes for stationary and websites. Illustrator is a good tool for illustrations and other things you're going to put in multiple sizes.

PR practitioners can learn about these programs simply by watching YouTube "How To" videos or through LinkedIn Learning. Personally, it's easiest for me to learn just by playing with the programs.

The programs are very useful tools when creating a design. However, the most powerful tool for creating a design is planning and research. You must research your audience to know their common interests, their ages, and demographics. This will help you determine the information you share, the tactics you use on the design, the colors, the fonts, and the various sizes. This will also help you determine the medium you're going to have to design for.

The process of completing this design on InDesign was long, however I found it fun. It was frustrating at times just because I didn't know exactly how to use each tool. However, I do feel like I have a better understanding of the tools now. I found it fun having creative freedom on the pages, and playing around with each tool to create a new design. I'm excited to become more proficient within these programs!
